Which company was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin?
Answer
Answer
Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
The company began as a 1996 Stanford University research project called BackRub. Page and Brin developed PageRank, an approach that judged a webpage partly by the quality and number of links pointing to it. They incorporated Google on September 4, 1998, after receiving an early $100,000 investment from Sun Microsystems co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim.
The name Google is a misspelling of “googol,” the mathematical term for 10¹⁰⁰, reflecting the founders’ ambition to organize enormous amounts of information. Google’s search engine quickly outperformed many portal-style competitors and became the company’s foundation.
A common mix-up is confusing Google with Alphabet. Since 2015, Alphabet has been Google’s parent company, while Google remains the subsidiary responsible for search, Android, YouTube and other major products.
