Which company was founded by Henry Ford in 1903?

The story behind the answer

The company founded by Henry Ford in 1903 was Ford Motor Company.

Ford Motor Company was incorporated on June 16, 1903, in Detroit, Michigan, with Henry Ford among its principal founders and investors. The new business was backed by twelve investors, including Alexander Malcomson and John S. Gray, as well as suppliers John and Horace Dodge. Gray initially served as president while Ford became vice president.

The 1903 company was not Ford’s first attempt at automobile manufacturing. Earlier ventures included the Detroit Automobile Company and the Henry Ford Company, both of which failed or reorganized. The Ford Motor Company succeeded by producing a series of early models before introducing the Model T in 1908.

Many people connect Ford’s founding directly with the moving assembly line, but that innovation came later. Ford introduced a moving assembly line at its Highland Park plant in 1913, dramatically reducing production time. The company’s breakthrough was therefore a combination of Ford’s engineering vision, investor support, standardized production, and increasingly efficient manufacturing—not simply the work of one founder acting alone.
