Which company produces the Pixel smartphone?

The story behind the answer

The company that produces the Pixel smartphone is Google.

Google Pixel is a family of consumer devices developed by Google and built around Google’s version of Android. The smartphone line replaced Google’s Nexus branding and was introduced in 2016 as part of Google’s effort to make a more tightly integrated hardware-and-software experience.

Google announced the first Pixel and Pixel XL on October 4, 2016. Unlike Nexus phones, which were prominently associated with outside hardware partners, Pixel devices were marketed directly under the “Phone by Google” identity. Google emphasized computational photography, camera software, Google Assistant, and fast Android updates as key advantages.

There is an important distinction between developing a product and physically manufacturing every unit. Google designs the Pixel phones, develops their software, and controls the product line, while manufacturing has involved outside companies such as HTC, LG, Foxconn, and other contract partners across different generations. That does not make Motorola, Apple, or Samsung the Pixel producer; they are separate manufacturers and competitors. The fair quiz answer remains Google.
