Which company produces the Mac computer?

The story behind the answer

Apple produces the Mac computer.

The Mac is Apple’s family of personal computers, introduced in 1984 as the Macintosh. The original machine presented a graphical user interface, mouse-based control and a compact all-in-one design, helping make personal computing more approachable for a broad audience. The name Macintosh referred to the McIntosh apple variety.

The product line has changed processor families several times. Macs moved from Motorola chips to PowerPC in the 1990s, then to Intel processors beginning in 2006. Apple began its transition to in-house Apple silicon in 2020, starting with the M1 chip. Current Mac products include MacBook laptops, iMac desktops, Mac mini, Mac Studio and Mac Pro.

“Produces” can be slightly misleading if interpreted as manufacturing every component itself. Apple designs and markets the Mac, while much of the physical assembly is handled by manufacturing partners such as Foxconn and Pegatron. That distinction does not change Apple’s role as the Mac’s producer and brand owner.
