Which company produces the Impossible Burger patty?

Impossible Foods produces the Impossible Burger patty. The company was founded in 2011 by Stanford biochemistry professor Patrick O. Brown, who wanted to reduce the environmental impact of meat production. Its flagship burger uses plant ingredients but is designed to imitate the taste, texture, and cooking behavior of ground beef.

A key ingredient is heme, an iron-containing molecule that contributes to the savory flavor associated with meat. Impossible Foods makes its heme through genetically engineered yeast rather than extracting it from animals. The patty is primarily made from soy protein concentrate, coconut oil, sunflower oil, and other plant-based ingredients.

The Impossible Burger is often confused with Beyond Meat products because both are major plant-based meat brands. Beyond Meat, however, is a separate company with its own recipes and product line. Gardein and MorningStar Farms also make meat alternatives, but neither produces the Impossible Burger.
