BMW owns the luxury car brand Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
The modern Rolls-Royce car company began operating in 1998 after BMW acquired rights connected with the Rolls-Royce name and badge. Volkswagen Group acquired much of the former Rolls-Royce and Bentley vehicle business, but the Rolls-Royce brand used for cars ultimately went to BMW after a negotiated transition.
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is separate from Rolls-Royce Holdings, the aerospace and engineering company. The carmaker’s headquarters and manufacturing plant are in Goodwood, West Sussex, England. Its modern models include the Phantom, Ghost, Cullinan, and Spectre, while the company emphasizes hand finishing and highly personalized specifications.
