Which company owns Burger King, Popeyes, and Tim Hortons?

The story behind the answer

Restaurant Brands International owns Burger King, Popeyes, and Tim Hortons.

Restaurant Brands International, commonly abbreviated RBI, was formed in 2014 through the merger of Burger King and the Canadian coffee-and-doughnut chain Tim Hortons. Popeyes became part of the group in 2017 when RBI acquired Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. The company operates mainly through franchised restaurants, making its brands important examples of large-scale franchise systems.

The three brands retain separate menus, identities, and restaurant operations. RBI is the parent company rather than a replacement name appearing on the storefronts. That distinction explains why customers may recognize Burger King, Popeyes, and Tim Hortons without immediately realizing they belong to the same corporate group.

A frequent mix-up is Yum! Brands, which owns KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell. Inspire Brands is another multi-brand restaurant company, associated with brands such as Arby’s and Sonic. Neither company owns RBI’s three named chains.
