Amazon operates Amazon Web Services and was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994.
Jeff Bezos founded Amazon in Bellevue, Washington, in 1994, and the company began as an online bookstore in 1995. It expanded into a broad marketplace selling goods from many categories, while also developing logistics, devices, streaming, advertising, and cloud computing.
Amazon Web Services launched in the mid-2000s and provides computing, storage, databases, networking, and other services to businesses, governments, and developers. AWS became one of Amazon’s most important profit sources and helped the parent company reach the highest tier of global market valuations.
Amazon is not the same as AWS: AWS is a business segment owned by Amazon.com, Inc. The parent company’s market capitalization reflects all its activities, not merely online retail or cloud services.
