Alphabet operates Google and changed its name from Google Inc. to Alphabet Inc. in 2015.
Google’s founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, created Alphabet as a holding company in 2015. Google became Alphabet’s largest subsidiary, while other projects and businesses were organized separately under the new corporate structure.
The reorganization was intended to give greater independence to businesses such as life sciences, investment activities, and experimental technology projects. Google continued to run products including Search, YouTube, Android, and Google Cloud.
Alphabet is frequently listed among the world’s largest companies by market capitalization because its advertising, cloud, software, and hardware businesses generate substantial revenue. The name change did not mean that Google disappeared; rather, Google became a subsidiary within a broader parent company.
