Reliance Industries is the largest publicly traded company in India by market capitalization within the Reliance group.
Reliance Industries began with textiles and expanded into petrochemicals, refining, oil and gas, telecommunications, and retail. Its diversified structure has made it one of India’s most valuable listed businesses and a frequent participant in global market-cap comparisons.
The company’s Jio telecommunications arm launched commercial services in 2016 and rapidly changed India’s mobile-data market. Reliance also built a major retail operation, giving investors exposure to consumer businesses as well as energy and chemicals.
Reliance Industries is not the same company as Tata Consultancy Services, HDFC Bank, or Infosys. Those are separately listed Indian corporations that can rank highly by market value. Market-cap positions fluctuate with share prices, so the precise order can change even when Reliance remains a dominant Indian listed company.
