Meta is headquartered in Menlo Park, California.
Meta Platforms, Inc. moved its headquarters to Menlo Park after operating in nearby Silicon Valley locations, including Palo Alto. Its main headquarters complex is associated with the company’s large campus along Hacker Way, close to the former Facebook offices and Stanford University.
The company was founded in 2004 as TheFacebook by Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, Andrew McCollum and Chris Hughes. It initially focused on social networking, but its portfolio later expanded to include Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Threads. In 2021, Facebook, Inc. changed its corporate name to Meta Platforms to signal a broader focus beyond the original social-networking service.
A frequent mix-up is calling the company Facebook. Facebook is still one of Meta’s products; Meta is the corporate parent. Menlo Park is also distinct from Mountain View, the neighboring Silicon Valley city associated with Google’s headquarters.
