Which company has provided the pace car for the Indianapolis 500 the most times?

The story behind the answer

Chevrolet has provided the Indianapolis 500 pace car more times than any other automaker or marque.

Chevrolet’s long association with the race includes repeated appearances by the Corvette and Camaro. The Corvette has been selected many times, while Camaro models have also led the field in several editions. Since 2002, Chevrolet has held an exclusive arrangement to provide the Indianapolis 500 pace car and other official vehicles.

The pace car leads the field for the parade and pace laps before the start, then enters during caution periods to control the speed and regroup the cars. Indianapolis used a pace car from the very first 500 in 1911, when Carl G. Fisher drove a Stoddard-Dayton.

The wording can cause confusion because historical lists may group brands under parent corporations. General Motors, Chevrolet’s parent, has supplied vehicles through several marques, including Oldsmobile and Cadillac. In ordinary Indianapolis 500 trivia, however, the answer is Chevrolet, the marque most strongly associated with the record.
