Apple first briefly reached a $3 trillion market capitalization during trading on January 3, 2022.
The company’s share price rose enough during that session for the value of all outstanding Apple shares to touch the milestone. Apple later became the first company to close a trading day above $3 trillion in June 2023, an important distinction from merely reaching the level intraday.
Apple’s market value grew alongside its transformation from a personal-computer maker into a broad consumer-technology and services company. The iPhone remained central, while the App Store, subscriptions, payments, and cloud-linked services added recurring revenue.
A common mix-up is treating market capitalization as annual sales or cash holdings. It is instead a stock-market valuation based on the share price and the number of shares outstanding.
