Which company develops and publishes the Street Fighter franchise?

The story behind the answer

Capcom develops and publishes the Street Fighter franchise.

The series began with the arcade game Street Fighter in 1987. Capcom’s original game introduced characters including Ryu and Ken and established the international martial-arts theme that became central to the franchise. Its sequel, Street Fighter II, arrived in 1991 and became one of the most influential fighting games ever made, helping popularize character-based one-on-one competition in arcades and at home.

Capcom remains the franchise’s owner and publisher, while some individual installments have involved additional development partners. For example, Dimps co-developed Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V, and Arika developed the Street Fighter EX games. Those partnerships do not change the canonical answer to the broader franchise question: Capcom is the company behind Street Fighter.

SNK is a common mix-up because it created major rival fighting franchises such as Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters. Sega and Namco also published or developed many famous arcade games, but neither is the company associated with Street Fighter’s creation and long-term publication.
