Which company developed the video game Overwatch?

Blizzard Entertainment developed Overwatch, the team-based hero shooter released in 2016.

The game was created by Blizzard Team 4 after the cancellation of Titan, a planned massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Led by director Jeff Kaplan, a small group of developers transformed ideas and assets from Titan into a colorful shooter built around distinct heroes, teamwork, and objective-based matches.

Overwatch was Blizzard's fourth major franchise and its first new intellectual property since StarCraft. It was formally announced at BlizzCon in November 2014, where attendees could try an early version with 14 playable characters. The finished game launched with 21 heroes, each designed around a specific role and ability set.

A common mix-up is confusing Blizzard Entertainment with Activision, which was its publishing partner through Activision Blizzard. Bungie, Riot Games, and Valve developed other major multiplayer franchises, but none created Overwatch. The game's successor, Overwatch 2, continued the same universe and expanded its roster, maps, and modes.
