Which company developed the Safari web browser?
Answer
Apple
Answer
Apple
Apple developed Safari, the web browser first introduced for Mac OS X in 2003.
Apple unveiled Safari at Macworld San Francisco on January 7, 2003, with Steve Jobs describing it as a fast browser designed for the Mac. It became the default browser in Mac OS X Panther, released later that year, replacing Internet Explorer for Mac as the system’s primary choice.
Safari is built on WebKit, Apple’s browser engine derived from the KHTML project created by KDE. Apple later open-sourced major parts of WebKit, which influenced other browsers and remains central to Safari on Apple platforms. Safari was also released for Windows from 2007 to 2012, although Apple discontinued that version.
A common mix-up is confusing Safari with WebKit. Safari is the browser application; WebKit is the engine that interprets web pages. Mozilla develops Firefox, Google develops Chrome, and Microsoft developed Internet Explorer and Edge, but Apple developed Safari.
