Which company developed the Bing search engine?

The story behind the answer

Microsoft developed the Bing search engine. Bing is the successor to Microsoft's earlier search services, including MSN Search, Windows Live Search, and Live Search.

Microsoft officially introduced Bing in 2009, with the public release arriving on June 3. The service was designed to compete more directly with Google and included features such as query suggestions, related searches, and specialized results for images, video, news, maps, and shopping.

A common mix-up is Yahoo, because Microsoft and Yahoo agreed in 2009 that Bing would provide much of Yahoo Search's underlying technology. Yahoo retained its own branding and interface, but that partnership did not make Yahoo the developer of Bing. Apple has also used Bing in some products and services, but it did not create the search engine.

Bing has continued to evolve beyond traditional web search. Microsoft integrated artificial-intelligence features into Bing in 2023, later connecting its conversational search experience with Microsoft Copilot.
