Which company developed the Angry Birds franchise?

The story behind the answer

Rovio Entertainment developed the Angry Birds franchise. The Finnish game company created the original Angry Birds game and went on to develop most of the series’ major games, including sequels and spin-offs.

The franchise began with a character sketch by Rovio designer Jaakko Iisalo in 2009. The development team turned the expressive, wingless birds into a physics-based puzzle game in which players launched them from a slingshot to defeat green pigs and recover stolen eggs. The first game’s success transformed Rovio’s fortunes and gave the company its flagship brand.

Some quiz answers can become confusing because other companies handled publishing, distribution, ports, or adaptations. Chillingo published the original iOS version in 2009, while other studios worked on particular console versions and spin-offs. Those partnerships do not change the canonical answer to who developed the franchise: Rovio Entertainment.
