Which company developed Pokémon Red and Blue?

The story behind the answer

Game Freak developed Pokémon Red and Blue.

The games were created by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the original Game Boy. In Japan, the first releases were Pokémon Red and Green; the international versions used Red and Blue, with Blue’s updated code, artwork, and dialogue helping form the overseas releases.

Game Freak grew from a video game magazine founded by Satoshi Tajiri and later became a development company co-founded by Tajiri and illustrator Ken Sugimori. The studio spent approximately six years developing the original Pokémon games.

Nintendo’s role was crucial as publisher and platform holder, which is why the two companies are sometimes mixed up in casual descriptions. Creatures also became involved in the wider Pokémon property and helped with related products, including the trading-card game. However, Game Freak is the credited developer of the original role-playing games.
