Niantic developed Pokémon Go.

The augmented-reality mobile game launched in 2016 for iOS and Android. It uses GPS and location data to place Pokémon in the real world, allowing players to explore, capture, train, and battle creatures through their phones.

Niantic developed and published the game in partnership with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. This collaboration explains why several organizations are associated with Pokémon Go, but Niantic is the developer named for the game itself.

Pokémon Go first launched on July 6, 2016, in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. Japan received it later that month. The game’s location-based design encouraged players to visit parks, landmarks, and other real-world places, creating a different style of Pokémon adventure from the traditional handheld role-playing games.
