Niantic developed and published Pokémon Go in partnership with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company.
Pokémon Go launched in 2016 as an augmented-reality mobile game for iOS and Android. It uses GPS and real-world locations, allowing players to find, capture, train, and battle Pokémon while moving through their surroundings.
Niantic’s earlier location-based game Ingress helped establish the mapping and exploration concepts used by Pokémon Go. The Pokémon partnership added familiar creatures, items, Gyms, and PokéStops to that real-world framework.
Game Freak developed the main Pokémon role-playing games, while Creatures has worked on areas including the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Those companies are therefore plausible but incorrect answers to this question. Pokémon Go was a major expansion of the franchise beyond Nintendo’s dedicated game consoles.
