Niantic developed and published Pokémon Go for iOS and Android devices.
Pokémon Go launched in 2016 as an augmented-reality mobile game made in partnership with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. It uses GPS and location data to place Pokémon, PokéStops, and Gyms in the player’s real-world surroundings.
The game first became available on July 6, 2016, in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. Japan received it on July 22, 2016, so the initial launch date and the Japanese launch date are different milestones.
Game Freak is often suggested as the answer because it developed the main Pokémon role-playing games, while Creatures Inc. is closely associated with the trading card game. Pokémon Go instead came from Niantic, whose earlier location-based game Ingress helped provide a technological and design foundation.
