AgileBits created the password manager and security service 1Password.
AgileBits is the Canadian software company behind 1Password, which began as a password-management application for Apple devices and later expanded to Windows, mobile platforms, browsers, and business use. The service stores encrypted vaults containing passwords and other sensitive information.
1Password is not the same thing as a password-hashing algorithm or an authentication protocol. It is a product that helps users generate, store, and fill credentials, while the master password or other account protections help control access to the vault.
The company has also developed security features such as secret-key-based account protection and support for passkeys. Competing password managers include LastPass, Dashlane, and Keeper, but those companies did not create 1Password.
