Which company created the Firefox web browser?
Answer
Mozilla
Answer
Mozilla
Mozilla created the Firefox web browser.
Firefox grew from the open-source Mozilla Application Suite, which itself followed Netscape’s decision to release source code for its browser project. The standalone browser was first released as Phoenix in 2002, then renamed Firebird and finally Firefox because of trademark concerns.
Mozilla positions Firefox as an open-source browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation and its subsidiary, Mozilla Corporation, with contributions from a worldwide community. It became a major alternative to Internet Explorer and later to Google Chrome.
A common mix-up is confusing Mozilla with Netscape. Netscape began the software lineage, but Mozilla developed and released Firefox as its own browser project. Firefox is available on desktop and mobile platforms and uses Mozilla’s Gecko rendering engine.
