Siemens built the Velaro-based Eurostar e320 trains.
The Eurostar e320 is a high-speed electric multiple-unit train based on Siemens’ Velaro platform. Eurostar introduced the trains to expand capacity and modernise its fleet for international services linking Britain with France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
The e320 name refers to the train’s intended top speed of 320 km/h. In passenger service, actual speeds depend on infrastructure, signalling, borders and route conditions, so the train does not travel at that speed everywhere.
Earlier Eurostar trains were derived from Alstom’s TGV family, which is why Eurostar’s older fleet and the e320 are sometimes mistakenly attributed to the same manufacturer.
