Which company acquired Tumblr in 2013?
Answer
Yahoo
Answer
Yahoo
Yahoo acquired Tumblr in 2013. Yahoo announced the agreement on May 20, 2013, and completed the purchase of the blogging and social-media platform for about $1.1 billion in cash on June 20.
Tumblr was founded in 2007 by David Karp and became known for its highly visual, user-generated posts, reblogging culture, and large communities built around niche interests. Yahoo said Tumblr would remain a distinct service, and Karp continued as its chief executive after the acquisition. The purchase was intended to strengthen Yahoo’s appeal to younger internet users and expand its mobile and social presence.
The deal is sometimes confused with later ownership changes. Verizon acquired Yahoo’s core internet business in 2017 and placed Tumblr within its Oath, later Verizon Media, division. Verizon Media sold Tumblr to Automattic, the WordPress.com operator, in 2019. Twitter, Google, and Facebook were prominent technology companies at the time, but none bought Tumblr in 2013.
