Which company acquired David Baszucki's Knowledge Revolution in 1998?

The story behind the answer

MSC Software acquired David Baszucki’s Knowledge Revolution in 1998.

Knowledge Revolution was an educational-software company founded by Baszucki and his brother Greg Baszucki. Its best-known products included Interactive Physics, which let students and teachers create two-dimensional physics experiments, and Working Model, software for simulating mechanical systems.

MSC Software, a simulation-software company, purchased Knowledge Revolution in December 1998. The acquisition connected Baszucki’s educational physics work with a larger engineering-software business. Baszucki remained involved after the deal and later served as MSC Software’s vice president and general manager from 2000 to 2002.

This history matters because Knowledge Revolution was a direct precursor to Roblox’s creative philosophy. After leaving MSC Software, Baszucki began investing in technology companies and later worked with Erik Cassel on a physics-oriented online platform. Their early project was called DynaBlocks before being renamed Roblox in 2005. The acquisition was therefore part of the professional background that preceded Roblox, not an acquisition of Roblox itself.
