Coldplay’s song made for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack is “Atlas.”
“Atlas” was written and performed by all four Coldplay members for the 2013 film’s official soundtrack. It was released digitally on 6 September 2013 as the soundtrack’s lead single, several weeks before the movie reached cinemas. The song is a slow, piano-led alternative-rock ballad with lyrics that echo the film’s themes of loyalty, danger, resistance and mutual dependence.
Coldplay recorded “Atlas” between April and July 2013 at the Beehive, one of the band’s London studios. Rik Simpson, Daniel Green and Coldplay shared production duties. Although it was written during the early sessions for Ghost Stories, the band ultimately left it off that album, making it a standalone soundtrack contribution.
The song is sometimes confused with tracks from Coldplay’s later studio albums, including “Magic,” “True Love” and “Midnight.” “Atlas” was also notable as Coldplay’s first song released exclusively for a film soundtrack rather than being reused on a subsequent studio album. It received nominations for both a Grammy and a Golden Globe.
