Coca-Cola was the first cola sold in a recyclable plastic bottle.
Coca-Cola introduced a recyclable polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, bottle in 1978. PET offered a lightweight alternative to glass and could be manufactured in forms suitable for carbonated beverages.
The shift changed soft-drink distribution by reducing package weight and making bottles easier to transport. Plastic packaging later became widespread across the beverage industry, although concerns about waste, recycling rates, and environmental impact have also grown.
This fact refers to Coca-Cola as a cola brand and to the recyclable PET bottle format. It does not mean Coca-Cola invented plastic bottles generally, nor does it describe every bottle used by the company in every country.
