Which coalition fought against France from 1803 to 1806?

The story behind the answer

Which coalition fought against France from 1803 to 1806? It was the Third Coalition. The conflict is usually called the War of the Third Coalition and is generally dated to 1805–1806, although Britain’s renewed war with France began in 1803 and some historical chronologies use broader dates.

The coalition united Britain, Austria, Russia, Naples, Sicily and Sweden against Napoleon’s France and its allies. Napoleon had originally assembled the Grande Armée at Boulogne for a possible invasion of Britain, but he redirected it toward Austria when the continental alliance took shape.

French forces defeated Austria during the Ulm Campaign and then won a major victory over combined Austrian and Russian armies at Austerlitz on 2 December 1805. The Treaty of Pressburg forced Austria out of the war. The victory also helped Napoleon create the Confederation of the Rhine, and in 1806 the Holy Roman Empire was dissolved. Prussia’s alarm soon contributed to the War of the Fourth Coalition.
