Which coalition finally defeated Napoleon in 1815?
Answer
Seventh Coalition
Answer
Seventh Coalition
The Seventh Coalition finally defeated Napoleon in 1815. It formed after Napoleon escaped from Elba and returned to power during the Hundred Days, prompting the European powers to unite against him once again.
The coalition included the United Kingdom, Prussia, Austria, Russia, Sweden, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and several German states. Napoleon tried to defeat the Allied armies separately before they could combine, attacking the Prussians at Ligny and the Anglo-allied army at Quatre Bras.
The decisive confrontation came at Waterloo on 18 June 1815. The British-led army commanded by the Duke of Wellington held its position while Prussian forces under Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher arrived on the French flank. Napoleon's defeat ended his brief return to power and led to his final exile on Saint Helena.
The Sixth Coalition had defeated Napoleon's first empire in 1814, but the Seventh Coalition was the alliance that defeated him after his return.
