Which coachbuilder styled the Aston Martin DB4 body?

The story behind the answer

Carrozzeria Touring styled the Aston Martin DB4 body.

The Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring of Milan designed the DB4’s lightweight Superleggera body. The term describes a framework of small tubes supporting thin aluminum panels, a construction method that reduced weight while allowing the DB4 to have the elegant, tightly drawn proportions associated with Italian grand tourers.

Aston Martin unveiled the DB4 at the 1958 London Motor Show. Its Continental appearance marked a major visual break from the earlier DB Mark III, even though the car remained a British Aston Martin and was built at the company’s Newport Pagnell works in Buckinghamshire.

The answer is sometimes confused with Zagato because the later DB4 GT Zagato received a special lightweight body from Zagato. Bertone also styled a one-off DB4 GT called the Bertone Jet, while Ghia is not the coachbuilder responsible for the standard DB4 body. Thus, for the ordinary production DB4, Carrozzeria Touring is the canonical answer.
