Which club was the most recent Europa League winner to win the UEFA Super Cup before 2026?
Answer
Atlético de Madrid
Atlético de Madrid was the most recent Europa League winner to win the UEFA Super Cup before 2026.
Atlético defeated Real Madrid in the 2018 UEFA Super Cup, the last time the Europa League holders won the competition before the 2026 edition. That historical streak ended when Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain beat Aston Villa 2–1.
The distinction refers to the club entering as Europa League champion, not simply any club that had previously won the Europa League. Aston Villa entered the 2026 final after winning the 2025–26 Europa League.
Paris Saint-Germain’s victory continued the strong record of Champions League holders in the modern competition. PSG also became only the third club to win consecutive Super Cups.
