Arsenal recorded the first Premier League clean sheet of the 2026–27 season.
Arsenal opened the campaign by beating Coventry City 3–0 at the Emirates Stadium on Friday, 21 August 2026. Because it was the season’s first match, Arsenal became the first club to prevent an opponent from scoring in the new league campaign.
Several other teams also kept clean sheets during the opening round. Hull City beat Manchester United 2–0, Everton beat Crystal Palace 2–0, Brentford beat Tottenham Hotspur 3–0, Brighton beat Aston Villa 4–0, and Leeds United defeated Nottingham Forest 1–0.
The timing matters: Hull, Everton and the other Saturday winners also achieved shutouts, but their matches began after Arsenal’s Friday opener. Coventry were therefore the first opponents held scoreless, even though Brighton later produced the weekend’s largest clean-sheet victory.
