Which club did Ronaldo score his first Manchester United goal against?
Answer
Portsmouth
Answer
Portsmouth
Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first Manchester United goal against Portsmouth. He converted a free-kick in a 3–0 Premier League win at Old Trafford on 1 November 2003.
Ronaldo had joined United from Sporting CP in August 2003 and made his debut as a substitute against Bolton Wanderers. His first goal came in his tenth appearance for the club, when his low free-kick helped United defeat Portsmouth.
That strike began a five-year spell in which Ronaldo developed from an exciting teenage winger into one of world football’s leading players. He finished his first season by scoring in the FA Cup final against Millwall, his first major trophy with United.
The answer is sometimes confused with Aston Villa because Ronaldo scored against Villa later in the same season, on the final day of the 2003–04 campaign. Portsmouth, however, was the opponent for his first United goal.
