Roger Federer signed with Uniqlo in 2018. The Japanese clothing company became his apparel partner after his long-running Nike contract expired.
The change became public at Wimbledon in July 2018, when Federer walked onto Centre Court wearing Uniqlo clothing. His Nike apparel contract had ended in March, concluding a relationship that had lasted roughly two decades. Federer had worn Nike clothing and footwear since the 1990s and had become closely associated with the brand’s Federer “RF” logo.
Reports described the Uniqlo agreement as a ten-year deal worth approximately $300 million, although the exact commercial terms were reported rather than formally detailed in every announcement. The contract covered clothing, while Federer later wore tennis shoes made by On, a Swiss athletic company in which he became an investor and shareholder.
The common mix-up is Nike, because Federer wore it for most of his career and the RF logo remained strongly identified with him. Uniqlo’s partnership was an apparel deal, not a complete replacement for every piece of equipment he used. Federer continued to make his own choices about footwear and other performance gear.
