Diablo II: Lord of Destruction introduced the Assassin, a class specializing in martial arts and traps.
The Assassin was one of two new playable classes added by Lord of Destruction, Blizzard’s expansion for Diablo II. Her skill trees combined martial-arts attacks, claw weapon techniques, traps, and shadow disciplines. This gave her a distinctive combat style unlike the original game’s six classes.
The class can build charges with certain martial-arts skills and release them through finishing moves. Traps, including sentry devices that deal elemental damage, provide another major part of the Assassin’s toolkit. She can also use claws and benefit from Shadow Warrior or similar shadow-themed abilities.
The Assassin is sometimes confused with the Amazon because both can use ranged or specialized weapons, but the Amazon was already present in the original Diablo II. Lord of Destruction added the Assassin and the nature-focused Druid, along with Act V and other major systems.
