Valencia is the Spanish city whose cathedral houses the chalice traditionally identified as the Holy Grail.
The object is known as the Holy Chalice of Valencia and is kept in the Chapel of the Holy Chalice inside Valencia Cathedral. It is a cup made from a dark stone bowl, mounted with later decorative elements, including a stem and base.
According to a long-standing Christian tradition, the upper bowl was used by Jesus at the Last Supper. The tradition says it later reached Rome and was eventually brought to Spain. Those claims are matters of religious tradition rather than independently established history.
The chalice has attracted major scholarly and religious interest because its physical form is more modest than many artistic portrayals of the Grail. Valencia’s cathedral formally displays it as a revered relic, while other churches and traditions have claimed different objects as the Grail.
