Which city was the capital of the Samanid dynasty and a major center of Persian culture?

The story behind the answer

Bukhara was the capital of the Samanid dynasty and a major center of Persian culture.

The Samanids ruled much of Transoxiana and Khurasan from the ninth to the tenth century, with Bukhara as their principal capital. Under their rule, the city became a center of Persian literature, Islamic scholarship, administration, and commerce.

Bukhara occupied a strategic position on routes crossing Central Asia. Merchants, scholars, diplomats, and travelers passed through the city, linking Iranian lands, the steppe, India, and China. Its markets handled textiles, metalwork, paper, livestock, and other regional goods.

Bukhara is sometimes confused with nearby Silk Road centers such as Samarkand or Merv. All three were important, but Bukhara’s specific distinction here is its role as the Samanid capital and a major engine of the New Persian cultural revival.
