Edinburgh stages the annual Hogmanay street party on Princes Street and in the city centre.
Edinburgh's Hogmanay is a major New Year's festival in Scotland's capital. Its events have included a torchlight procession, concerts, a large outdoor street party, and fireworks near Edinburgh Castle. The setting combines the historic Old Town, the castle skyline, and central streets, giving the celebration a distinctive city backdrop.
The modern organized festival developed in the late twentieth century, although Hogmanay customs themselves are much older. Attendance arrangements, venues, and programming can change from year to year, so descriptions of a particular edition should not be treated as permanent features.
Edinburgh's celebration is sometimes confused with Glasgow's New Year events or with Hogmanay as a national Scottish tradition. Hogmanay is celebrated across Scotland, but Edinburgh is especially internationally recognized for its large, ticketed public festival and street party.
