Berlin hosts the New Year's Eve fireworks display at the Brandenburg Gate.
Berlin’s large New Year celebration centers on the Straße des 17. Juni between the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column. The public event features music, outdoor entertainment, crowds, and fireworks around midnight. The Brandenburg Gate provides an especially recognizable backdrop because it is one of Germany’s most important historic monuments.
The gate was completed in 1791 as a neoclassical city entrance. It later became a symbol associated with Berlin’s division and reunification. New Year celebrations there use the monument as a civic gathering point, but the event is not the same as Germany’s nationwide New Year customs, which vary from private parties to local fireworks displays.
