Which city hosts the annual street art festival Upfest?

The story behind the answer

Which city hosts the annual street art festival Upfest? Bristol hosts the street art festival Upfest.

The festival is associated especially with the Bedminster and Southville districts of Bristol, in southwest England. Founded in 2008 by Stephen Hayles, it began as a small one-day event featuring about 20 artists and grew into a major public celebration of murals, graffiti, exhibitions, music, and live painting.

Upfest helped strengthen Bristol’s reputation as a centre for street art and graffiti. Artists paint walls, shopfronts, and other urban surfaces while visitors watch the work develop in public. The festival has traditionally been annual, although its format changed after the pandemic and became biennial or distributed in some years. That scheduling change does not alter the city association: Bristol remains the canonical answer. A related project, Weston Wallz, extends Upfest’s mural activity to nearby Weston-super-Mare.
