Mexico City hosts the annual Quinceañera Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe stands in the Villa de Guadalupe area of Mexico City and is one of the world’s best-known Catholic pilgrimage sites. Quinceañeras may attend special Masses there as part of a religious observance connected with their fifteenth birthday.
The basilica is dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose image is traditionally associated with the apparitions reported to have occurred in 1531. The site includes the modern basilica and earlier churches built nearby.
A Mass at the basilica is not required for a quinceañera. Religious practice varies: some families attend a parish service, some hold a secular celebration, and others combine both. The location is therefore a notable venue, not a universal part of the tradition.
