Edinburgh hosts the annual Hogmanay street party and midnight fireworks on Princes Street.
Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is a large New Year festival featuring concerts, processions, street entertainment, and fireworks. The main events take place around the city centre, with Princes Street and views toward Edinburgh Castle forming a prominent part of the celebration.
The festival’s modern organized form developed from Scotland’s long-standing Hogmanay customs, including gatherings, singing, and first-footing. In first-footing, the first person to enter a household after midnight traditionally brings symbolic gifts such as coal, bread, salt, or whisky.
Edinburgh’s event is not the only Hogmanay celebration in Scotland; cities and towns across the country mark the new year in their own ways. The answer is therefore the city, not Scotland as a whole and not the name of the festival itself.
