Which city hosted the 24th Winter Olympic Games in 2022?

The story behind the answer

Beijing hosted the 24th Winter Olympic Games in 2022.

Officially called the XXIV Olympic Winter Games, Beijing 2022 took place mainly in Beijing, with snow events also held in Yanqing and nearby Zhangjiakou. Competition ran from February 4 to 20, 2022, although some events began two days earlier.

Beijing won the hosting vote in Kuala Lumpur on July 31, 2015, defeating Almaty, Kazakhstan, by four votes. The choice made Beijing the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics, following its 2008 Summer Games.

A common mix-up is confusing the host city with the wider competition area: Zhangjiakou hosted many outdoor events, but Beijing was the official host city. The Games featured 109 medal events across seven sports and 15 disciplines, including newly added events such as women's monobob and mixed-team competitions.
