Which city hosted Banksy’s 2013 residency Better Out Than In?
Answer
New York City
Answer
New York City
Banksy’s 2013 residency Better Out Than In took place in New York City.
During October 2013, Banksy produced a sequence of public artworks across New York’s five boroughs. The project used the city itself as a gallery, with works appearing on walls, vehicles and in temporary installations. Many pieces were quickly photographed, discussed and sometimes removed or damaged.
The residency was especially notable because Banksy gave each day’s work a title and audio commentary. This made the project unusually structured for an artist whose street works are often discovered without warning.
People sometimes confuse the location with London because Banksy is strongly associated with the United Kingdom. However, Better Out Than In was specifically a New York project, and its artworks responded to the city’s neighbourhoods, architecture and street culture.
