Which circuit is famously known as the 'Cathedral of Speed'?

The story behind the answer

The circuit famously known as the “Cathedral of Speed” is TT Circuit Assen.

Located in the Netherlands, Assen is one of the historic venues of Grand Prix motorcycle racing. The Dutch TT has been part of the world championship since 1949, making it the only circuit to have hosted a motorcycle Grand Prix every season from the championship’s beginning through 2019; the 2020 event was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The circuit earned its grand nickname through its long racing tradition, fast flowing corners and passionate crowds. The original road circuit was much longer than today’s permanent track. Modern Assen is shorter and more tightly shaped, but it remains associated with high-speed motorcycle racing and is widely regarded as one of the sport’s classic venues.

A common mix-up is calling the event itself “Assen.” Assen is the city and circuit, while the race is the Dutch TT, officially the Motul TT Assen in various naming eras. Phillip Island and Mugello are also celebrated fast circuits, but neither is the “Cathedral of Speed.”
