Which circuit hosted the first MotoGP race after the COVID-19 pandemic hiatus in 2020?
Answer
Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto
Answer
Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto
The first MotoGP race after the COVID-19 hiatus in 2020 was held at Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto.
The 2020 MotoGP season was disrupted before its planned start when the Qatar MotoGP race was cancelled because of pandemic-related travel restrictions. After months of postponement, racing resumed in Spain on 19 July 2020 at the Jerez circuit.
That event was officially the Spanish Motorcycle Grand Prix, and it opened a pair of consecutive MotoGP weekends at the same venue. The following weekend, Jerez hosted the Andalusian Motorcycle Grand Prix, an unusual back-to-back arrangement created by the revised calendar.
The comeback race was held behind closed doors and under strict health protocols. Fabio Quartararo won the Spanish Grand Prix, while Marc Márquez suffered a major crash after briefly leading. The Red Bull Ring hosted races later in the revised season, but it was not the first venue after the hiatus.
