Which Christian feast day is often associated with the summer solstice?

The story behind the answer

Which Christian feast day is often associated with the summer solstice? St. John's Day.

St. John's Day, also called the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, is observed on June 24 in many Christian traditions. Its date falls only a few days after the astronomical summer solstice, which usually occurs on June 20, 21, or 22 in the Northern Hemisphere. The evening before is known as Saint John's Eve.

Across Europe, older midsummer customs became linked with this Christian feast. Bonfires, processions, feasting, dancing, baptisms, and church services are associated with celebrations in different regions. In several countries, the festival remains a major cultural holiday even when its religious meaning is less prominent.

A common mix-up is treating June 24 as the solstice itself. The solstice is an astronomical event whose date varies slightly, while St. John's Day is a fixed feast day. Pentecost, Christmas, and Easter are movable or differently timed Christian observances and are not specifically connected with midsummer.
