Which Chinese leader co-signed the 1945 Potsdam Declaration calling for Japan’s surrender?

The story behind the answer

Chiang Kai-shek co-signed the 1945 Potsdam Declaration calling for Japan’s surrender.

The declaration was issued on 26 July 1945 by the United States, the United Kingdom, and China. Its signatories were Harry S. Truman, Winston Churchill, and Chiang Kai-shek. It outlined Allied terms for Japan and warned that refusal would bring “prompt and utter destruction.”

Chiang was leader of the Republic of China, which had been fighting Japan since the Second Sino-Japanese War began in 1937. The declaration’s terms included disarmament, occupation of selected Japanese territory, and the removal of militarist influence. Japan formally accepted its terms in August, before signing the surrender instrument in September.
